Viola Curriculum (Conversion)

There is a common misconception that violinists who convert to viola do so due to some inadequacy in instrumental technique. In fact, learning to play the viola can help improve violin technique and musicianship.

Benefits include:

  • The stretching of left fingers on the larger viola can help strengthen the fingers.
  • Learning to read another clef (alto) is an asset and strengthens musicianship.
  • Having to play the middle voice in an ensemble helps raise the awareness of listening to other parts, promoting better overall understanding of the piece of music.
  • Broaden tonal awareness brought about by the darker and richer viola tone.

SISC provides the opportunity for violin students to experience these benefits under the guidance of the professionals (violas will be provided free by Synwin Music). Please click here to read the loan scheme.
