Program
Conference Outline
Repertoire Technique Class(Cello/Viola/Violin):
A set of repertoire of different levels will be given in advance for the participants to prepare. It will be most beneficial to the students if they could learn these pieces by memory. Participants will be taught on the technical aspects of instrumental playing, how to improve it to a higher level and to perform the pieces for the final concerts.
Orchestra:
A set of repertoire of different levels will be given in advance for the participants to prepare.
Participants will be guided by an orchestra conductor on the orchestral technique to improve it to a higher level for performance during the gala concert.
Fiddling Classes:
Fiddle playing is characterized by a huge variety of ethnic or folk music traditions, each with its own distinctive sound. Many countries have their own style of fiddling. Bluegrass fiddling is our focus during this year’s conference. Bluegrass fiddling is a style of music closely associated with dancing, including fast note changes and rhythms closely associated with dancing. The tunes chosen this year have words in english, which we’ll learn to sing and then play on our respective instruments. One of the fun aspects of fiddling is that once the tune and words are learned we can create our own arrangement.
Improvisation Classes:
Improvisation is a valuable precursor to composition. It provides students with a framework in which to try out ideas freely and encourages creativity. Participants in Elementary level or above will have 1 improvisation class as part of the curriculum in the Conference.
Masterclasses (Conference package / non-Conference Package):
Conference Package : Conference Participants will prepare 1 or 2 pieces of their own choice or set pieces from SISC (Technique or Orchestra piece) and receive individual coaching from the faculty.
Non-Conference Package : Non-Conference Participants may sign up for the Masterclasses (non-conference package) and receive 3x30mins sessions of coaching from the faculty during the conference period. One session per day. Participants to prepare 1 or 2 pieces of their own choice.
The masterclasses may be observed by the rest of the conference participants.
Additional Masterclasses:
Conference Participants can register for additional masterclass with their preferred Clinicians (Subject to availability).
Dalcroze classes:
The Dalcroze method teaches students concepts of rhythm, structure, and musical expression through movement. The idea is that students can develop a physical awareness and experience of music using all of their senses, especially their kinesthetic sense. The link between music and movement is throughly explored which helps students in feeling the music at a deeper level.
Faculty Concerts:
Invited professors will perform for the participants and the public.
Special Effects Class:
Have fun playing your string instruments in the most unconventional and ingenious ways, and learn how to compliment a story or movie script with violin sound effects.
Fun Time Performance by the Faculty:
The faculty will perform music and skits to make you laugh till you drop!
Violin/Cello Taster:
The Taster Workshop provides children age 5-10 (Violin) and age 5-12 (Cello) to experience playing the instrument.
Participants will have a 50 minutes session (group basis) on the first day of the conference. Instruments will be provided for during the session.
The Taster Workshop also allows the parent and the child to attend all talks/concerts and explore all the sessions at the conference, a valuable experience in observing the learning process of string playing.
